Dr. Wilbon has a commitment to serving women, children, and families. She is a native of Gary, Indiana but did her undergraduate and graduate work at the University of Iowa. As an undergraduate student, she worked as an At-Risk Youth Retreat Coordinator where she facilitated youth retreat workshops and volunteered for the United States Peace Corps in Namibia, Africa. While in Africa she created an adolescent girls’ leadership academy and created a girls’ internship program with 17 governmental and NGOs. She provided adult advocacy and services for the Women’s Research and Education Institute and the Rape Victim Advocacy Program. Dr. Wilbon also served as a Seminar Leader for Landmark Worldwide.
The highlights of Dr. Wilbon’s recent clinical work with children and teens are:
- Working as an Emergency Room Social Worker performing psychiatric, suicide, and stress evaluations for children.
- Supervised 7 Social Workers/Case Managers who provided services to more than 300 patients infected with HIV.
- Coordinated and facilitated an adolescent substance abuse prevention program.
- Provided individual and group counseling for adolescents in crisis.
- Presented strategies for teen pregnancy prevention.
The highlights of Dr. Wilbon’s clinical work with adults are:
- Provided individual, family, and group counseling.
- Provided individual and family therapy to chronically ill patients.
- Assessed and formulated treatment plans for at-risk families.
- Facilitated parenting classes for parents, including mandated parents.
- Rape Victim Advocacy Program crisis counseling to survivors.
- Provided client recommendations, referrals, and individual and family counseling.
- Train group facilitators, child-care providers, and community providers
- Created, implemented, and facilitated the HIV Services Support group curriculum.
- Collaborated with multidisciplinary professionals for wrap-around service.
